The History of Tasman Belting

Tasman Belting Pty Limited, a privately owned Australian Company is the longest serving Distributor of Habasit AG, Switzerland. We have been supplying their high quality conveyor and power transmission belting for the past 50 years. The start of this long established Australian business is quite unique.

In 1952, the Commonwealth Pulley Company owned by the Hoult family became the first Habasit AG overseas agent.

In 1974, the Hoult family decided to form Habasit (Australia) Pty Ltd to give Habasit a better profile in the Australian market. Habasit (Australia) sold Habasit AG's belting to a wide range of industry, including printing, postal and paper, packaging , food manufacturing, distribution centers including airports and most general industries.

Branches were opened in Melbourne in 1982, Perth in 1993, Brisbane in 2010 and an affiliated company was established in Auckland in 1988 to ensure Habasit belting was readily available across Australia and New Zealand. In 2004, Habasit (Australia) Pty Ltd changed its name to Tasman Belting Pty Ltd to more accurately reflect its independence as an Australasian owned and operated company.

In April 2006, Henry H.L. Jong, who comes from New Zealand, has acquired the company and is leading the company to new horizons, Henry Jong was a professional manager with the Habasit Group for seventeen years. His last position in Habasit was as the Managing Director of Habasit East Asia Ltd in Hong Kong. It is Henry Jong's commitment to carry on the successful tradition of the Hoult family and bring about better value to both the employees and customers alike.
